Organizational Setting:
The Liaison Office in New York functions under the Director General’s Office (DGO) of the IAEA, serving as a vital connection between the United Nations and the Agency.
The office ensures effective collaboration regarding the Agreement Governing the Relationship between the UN and IAEA, addressing reporting on resolutions, decisions, and relevant documentation.
Main Purpose:
Interns will provide support to the Liaison Office by participating in various UN meetings, assisting in preparations for Agency-related events, and conducting research to promote outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Interns will:
- Attend and report on meetings of the UN General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Security Council, and other relevant events as directed by the Director of the Liaison Office.
- Assist in the preparations for the Agency’s involvement in UN meetings.
- Engage with representatives from Permanent Missions to the UN and other intergovernmental organizations.
- Support visitors from the IAEA headquarters during duty travel.
- Contribute to the creation of outreach presentations and assist with other tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Candidates should possess a university degree in international relations, security, or a related field.
- A fundamental understanding of the United Nations system and knowledge of nuclear non-proliferation and its peaceful uses would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, and knowledge of an additional IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) is a plus.
Applicant Eligibility:
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time university studies toward a first degree.
- Those who have graduated must apply within one year of their degree’s completion.
- Previous participants in the IAEA’s internship program are not eligible to apply.
- Two signed letters of recommendation must be attached to the application.
