Einstein Fellowship 2026 applications now open (Fully-funded to Germany)

The Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation invite applications for the esteemed Einstein Fellowship 2026.

These two organizations are dedicated to nurturing exceptional young thinkers who aspire to venture beyond the confines of their previous research domains, embodying the spirit of intellectual curiosity and multidisciplinary engagement exemplified by Albert Einstein himself.

The Einstein Fellowship is a unique opportunity designed for outstanding individuals under the age of 35 who hold a university degree in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences.

This distinguished fellowship, awarded for a project distinctly different from the applicant’s prior work, aims to support interdisciplinary approaches and innovative thinking.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be under the age of 35.
  • A university degree in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences is required.
  • The proposed project must demonstrate exceptional quality, originality, and feasibility, along with evidence of superior intellectual development by the applicant.

The proposed project is expected to serve as a significant stepping stone towards further development, although it need not be completed within the fellowship period.

Fellowship Details

  • Duration: 5 to 6 months
  • Stipend: EUR 10,000
  • Coverage of travel expenses
  • Requirement: Presentation of the project in a public lecture at both the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation upon completion of the fellowship

At the conclusion of the fellowship period, the fellow will be required to present their project in a public lecture at both the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation, showcasing their innovative work and contributing to the exchange of ideas within the community.

Application Requirements

Candidates interested in the fellowship for the year 2026 are invited to submit their applications, which must include:

  1. A current CV
  2. A two-page project proposal detailing the intended project
  3. Two letters of recommendation

All application materials must be submitted by May 15, 2025.

It is important to note that the Einstein Fellowship is specifically designed for projects that represent a significant departure from an applicant’s previous work, and will not support dissertation research or projects that are merely continuations of past studies.

Important Note: Please be advised that the fellowship does not endorse applications aimed at completing prior academic studies.

The project must represent a substantial shift in focus, both in content and, preferably, in field and form.
